Healing Period

After surgical placement, the implant needs time to integrate with the jawbone. This healing period typically takes several months, depending on individual factors. During this time, you may have a temporary replacement tooth or no visible gap depending on the location and your treatment plan.

Once the implant has fully integrated, you’ll return to our clinic for the final restoration. This involves fitting a custom-made crown, bridge, or denture attachment onto the implant post. Once restored, dental implants are cared for in much the same way as natural teeth. Brush twice daily, floss around the implant and restoration, and attend regular check-ups and cleans so your dentist can monitor the implant, the surrounding gum tissue, and the restoration itself.

If you grind or clench your teeth, a custom nightguard can help protect both the implant restoration and your natural teeth from excessive wear.

Avoid using the implant tooth to bite down on very hard objects (ice, bottle caps, hard nuts) — the restoration material can chip or fracture just like a natural tooth.
