In-Chair Whitening
In-chair whitening is performed at our Sandgate clinic and can deliver visible results in a single appointment, although results vary from person to person. Your dentist applies a professional-strength whitening gel to your teeth and activates it with a special light. The gel is applied in several cycles during the appointment, with each cycle gradually lightening the shade of your teeth. The entire process typically takes around 60 to 90 minutes.
In-chair whitening is a good option if you'd like noticeable results quickly — for example, before a special event, photos or an important occasion.
Take-Home Whitening Kits
For patients who prefer to whiten at their own pace, we provide custom take-home whitening kits. Your dentist takes impressions of your teeth to create custom-fitted whitening trays. You're then given a supply of professional-grade whitening gel to use at home, applying the gel to your trays for a specified period each day (typically 30 minutes to a few hours, or overnight, depending on the product).
Take-home whitening usually takes one to two weeks and allows you to control the level of brightness gradually, although results vary from person to person. The custom trays can be kept and reused with top-up gel for maintenance treatments in the future.
Combination Approach
Some patients benefit from a combination of both — an in-chair session for an initial boost, followed by take-home trays to maintain and extend the result. Your dentist can recommend the most appropriate approach for your situation.
Professional vs. Over-the-Counter Whitening
Whitening products are widely available in pharmacies, supermarkets and online — including strips, gels, toothpastes and LED kits. While these products are convenient and generally affordable, there are important differences between them and professional whitening.
Professional whitening treatments use higher-concentration whitening agents that are only available through a dentist. - You are pregnant or breastfeeding
