Tooth pain & sensitivity
- Toothache — aching, throbbing or pain when you bite often points to decay, a cracked tooth or an exposed nerve.
- Severe or worsening toothache — pain that keeps you up or comes with swelling needs prompt attention.
- Sensitive teeth — short, sharp pain with hot, cold or sweet foods.
- Jaw pain or TMJ — often linked to clenching or grinding.
Broken, chipped or knocked-out teeth
- Cracked tooth — may twinge when biting; early treatment can save the tooth.
- Dead or dying tooth — a tooth turning grey after a knock or deep decay, or pain that suddenly stopped.
- Broken or chipped tooth — from a small edge to a larger break.
- Knocked-out tooth — act fast: keep the tooth moist and call us straight away.
- Lost filling or lost crown — protect the tooth and book a repair.
Gums & infection
- Gum disease & bleeding gums — bleeding when brushing is the early sign; reversible when caught early.
- Dental abscess — swelling, a bad taste or facial swelling needs prompt care.
Wisdom teeth
- Impacted or aching wisdom teeth — pain at the back of the jaw, often in late teens and twenties.
Some problems can wait for a normal appointment; others should not. Our quick guide helps you decide: is it a dental emergency?
Worried about a symptom in your suburb?
We see families from across North Brisbane and the bayside. Find your local page on our dentist near me hub — Sandgate, Shorncliffe, Brighton, Deagon, Boondall, Taigum, Bracken Ridge, Fitzgibbon, and Margate, Clontarf and Woody Point on the Redcliffe side.
How urgent is my symptom?
As a rough guide:
- Get seen promptly — severe or worsening pain, facial swelling, bleeding that will not stop, or a knocked-out adult tooth. Phone us on (07) 3269 6252.
- Book soon — a chip, a lost filling, ongoing sensitivity, or bleeding gums that are not settling.
- Routine — a check-up if it has simply been a while, or mild niggles you would like looked at.
When you are not sure, it is always fine to call and ask — we would rather point you in the right direction than have you worrying at home.
